‘Turning Jews Over’ – the Participation of ‘Blue’ Policemen in Deportations of Jews Illustrated with the Example of the Radomsko County

Interested in the history of Jews and ethnic minorities in Łódź and its region. Member of the team of editors and publishers of the 5-volume Kronika getta łódzkiego/Litzmannstadt Getto (2009). Recently edited a volume of studies Zagłada Żydów na polskiej prowincji (2012, together with Adam Sitarek and Michał Trębacz), Archiwum Ringelbluma. Konspiracyjne Archiwum Getta Warszawy, vol. 13: Ostatnim etapem przesiedlenia jest śmierć. Pomiechówek, Chełmno nad Nerem, Treblinka (2013, together with Barbara Engelking and Alina Skibińska), Rywka Lipszyc, The Diary of Rywka Lipszyc: Found in Auschwitz by the Red Army in 1945 and ϔirst published in San Francisco in 2014 (co-contributor; second edition: San Francisco, 2015); Dawid Sierakowiak, Dziennik (2015, together with Adam Sitarek).

Abstract
Based on previously unknown archival documents, the author discusses the Polish Police functionaries’ participation in deportations of the Jewish population from Radomsko County to the ghetto in Radomsko or to death centres. The ‘blue’ policemen participated in the “Jewish campaigns” not only as guards, but they also took a direct part in both the loading of Jews and Jewish possessions and in the stamping of Jewish property.
